Residencies and Research
Creating Space for socially engaged arts practice in Tuam
Creative Places Tuam wants to give time for ideas to percolate, space for communities to come together, resources for projects to grow. Through the delivery of long term residencies and research opportunities, we will support artists and communities to work together on a common goal. This will be the space for gathering together to interrogate ideas, to grow our understanding of socially engaged arts practice and make great art. This is the space to think globally, to act locally, to make together.
The programme will offer a number of residencies and active research opportunities to artists who have a proven track record of socially engaged art practice in community contexts. These artists will collaborate with Tuam, its people, history and future on creative projects and build community capacity in the town and its surrounding areas. The principles of Human Rights, Equality and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion will be central to our work supporting artists and communities.
These durational residency programmes provide space to ensure the voices and people of Tuam and beyond are centred within Creative Places Tuam. Each residency will inform the larger Creative Places Tuam programme by further embedding the programme in the community.
The Residencies & Research will be punctuated by opportunities for dissemination via exhibition, events, gatherings, documentation – in Tuam and beyond. Through our local Creative Places Tuam publications and national social media channels we will platform the work undertaken nationally and internationally.
