The Gathering: A weekend of sharing with Creative Places Tuam

date
24th - 26th May 2024

As the Creative Places Tuam pilot draws to a close, we reflect on the incredible journey we’ve undertaken together as a community. This initiative has been a testament to the creativity, resilience, and spirit of Tuam.

The success of Creative Places Tuam is a direct result of the dedication and hard work of everyone involved—local artists, community leaders, volunteers, and residents who have generously shared their talents, time, and ideas. Together, we have demonstrated the power of the arts in fostering connection and pride within our town.

Join us on the weekend of the 24th May to celebrate the work created during this pilot programme, explore the use of space in the town, and experience original theatre from Tuam local Little John Nee. We look forward to seeing you there.

Schedule:

Friday 24th May, 2-6pm

Creative Places Tuam Archive Sharing
Tuam Town Hall, Upstairs Space (Entry by blue door at the ramp)

Come join us to explore and enjoy the traces of the work that has emerged throughout our time in Tuam. Help us to build the archive of Creative Places Tuam, that will remain in Tuam Library as a legacy of our work together.

Saturday 25th May 11:30 – 2.30pm

ReImagine Tuam Open Shop
The Brewery Building, Shop Street Tuam, H54 WK65
Exhibition 11.30am – 2.30pm
Presentation 1pm – 2pm

The Reimagine Tuam Project, funded by the Irish Architecture Foundation, is a collaborative team bringing together architects, designers, and artists with the local community of Tuam to address the issue of vacancy within the town.

The team including Helena McElmeel Architects, Creative Places Tuam and Niall O’Cleirigh welcome you to attend our Open Shop event to view and discuss the survey, consultation, engagement and collaborative work carried out over the last year with building owners, community groups and various stakeholders as part of the Reimagine Tuam Vacant to Vibrant project.

This is a family friendly event with music, chat and treats and a short presentation from the project team and participants.

Saturday 25th May, 11.30am

Archive and Film Launch
Tuam Library

Join us as we hand over the Creative Places Tuam archive to the safekeeping of the library and share images and a film of our time together. The archive of Creative Places Tuam will live in the community, as it was created by the community. This exhibition will run until June 4th during library open hours.

Sunday 26th May, 7pm

Nettle Horse by Little John Nee
The Mall Theatre, Tuam

Creative Places Tuam invites you to join us at The Mall Theatre as we close the pilot phase of the work with a free showing of “Nettle Horse” by Little John Nee. Our thank you to Tuam!

In January 2020, Little John Nee introduced Creative Places Tuam to the community as part of the launch event and we are truly honoured to have him present his latest work as a gift to all those who have been on the journey with us over the last 4 years. Written and performed by award winning writer, performer and musician, Little John Nee, ‘Nettle Horse’ is a transformative theatrical odyssey weaving storytelling, song, and satire, inviting the audience to untether their imagination and gallop into a parallel universe. Light design by Emma O Grady
